As Michael Jordan has once said, "Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.”; effective teams are able to increase efficiency, maximizing synergetic energy in organizations. Teamwork can influence an employee's growth, productivity, and innovation which has an overall impact on the company's performance.Employee’s growth: A study conducted by the University of Ghana analyzed the impact of teamwork on organizational performance from a teaching hospital and a government hospital. Results show that 96.7% of the respondents agreed that teamwork allows employees to broaden their knowledge and skills, enabling an improvement on their own work performance. The overall results of the study showed that teamwork had a positive effect on organizational performance.
Productivity: Social psychologist Floyd Allport has mentioned that people work better in teams. Known as the social facilitation effect, people have the tendency to perform better in the presence of others than when alone. Data collected from a steel mini-mills production line study shows that teams perform better when handling complex tasks such as improving product quality.
Innovation: Innovation itself is a process requires unique skill sets from a team to fuel growth. In a study of 145 software development projects, the results show that teamwork quality and performance is dependent on the innovativeness of the project. Teamwork quality is critical when completing highly innovative tasks because usually there are frequent changes and unforeseen circumstances. Therefore, it is necessary for teams to meet to share information and challenges to ensure the project is on track.
It is essential to understand the value of teamwork and the benefits of how it can facilitate an organization. Great teams not only build strong relationships but they can strengthen individual members.
